At Design Eyewear, we pride ourselves on our unique selection of frames that you won’t find anywhere else —and once you order your frames, we won’t restock that item. This means your frames will truly be yours—we won’t sell that style to anyone else—this also means we’ll always have new and exclusive items in the store for when you’re ready for another pair.
It’s our aim to always offer our clientele a wide range to suit all tastes and budgets. As well as the fabulous frames on display, there are quite a few hidden gems in the drawers, so please ask our staff, and we’ll find something fabulous for you!

We carry an extensive range of daily, fortnightly and monthly disposable contact lenses from all the major manufacturers. These days there is a contact lens option for almost all vision problems and we're happy to find the contact lens most suited to you to provide the best possible vision and comfort.
We use the full range of lens designs available locally from international manufacturers, which are revered for their durability and performance, including Essilor, Zeiss and Hoya. Plastic lenses require premium coatings for protection, and these will incorporate UV blocking properties, non-reflective qualities as well as surface hardness.
Optometry is our main focus, and the health of your eyes is our priority. We book 40-minute appointment times to ensure you don’t feel rushed, and so we can get to know you and discuss any concerns or questions you have.
We want to get to know you—and your eyes. That’s why we offer exceptional service and why we can help you find the unique products you’re looking for. We are an independent South Australian owned optometry practice established in 1994.
Optometrist
Originally from the Adelaide Hills, Stuart has been a practising optometrist for 16 years. His interest in science compelled him to begin his studies in botany and zoology at the University of Adelaide, where he completed a Bachelor of Science degree. Finding himself drawn to the field of optometry, he went to Brisbane to study at Queensland University of Technology, graduating in 2001. He has practised in both Australia and Canada. Outside of work, you can find Stuart spending time with his wife Rachel and their children, enjoying a run, participating in triathlons and honing his photography skills.

A Canadian by origin, Rachel began her optometry education at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, where she completed an Honours Science degree. She moved to Australia to continue her studies, attending the Victorian College of Optometry at the University of Melbourne. She graduated the optometry program in 2002, and has practised in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Rachel met her husband Stuart when they worked together at the same optometry shop in Adelaide. She moonlights as a stand-up comedian and has appeared in televised comedy events in both Australia and Canada, and has won numerous awards for her comedic talents.
Optometrist
Ken grew up in Adelaide and began his studies at Flinders University, then continued at Melbourne University where he completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Optometry, graduating in 1974. After working in corporate optometry for many years he set up as an independent in 1984 in Prospect, shifting to Gawler Place in 1998 to Design Eyewear. His interest in therapeutic optometry led to further studies in this area through the State University of New York in 1994, and later via the University of New South Wales in 2013. He currently works as a tutor in the optometry school at Flinders. Outside of the office Ken enjoys drumming, gardening, and building things.
